Investigating the Molecular Architecture of Hyperbranched Polymers
نویسندگان
چکیده
Hyperbranched polymers constitute a unique class of branched macromolecules, where structural complexity is complemented by relative ease of synthesis. The increasing interest in the study of these materials is due to their distinctive properties, inherently tied to their complex molecular architecture, and is augmented by the continual growth of applications like catalysis, viscosity modifiers, and sensors. We report a structural model for HBPs based on fractal scaling of bothmass and connectivity. This model is shown to be of use in understanding small angle scattering data, especially in comparison with nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy for structural characterization.

Single-chain nanoparticles vs. star, hyperbranched and dendrimeric polymers: effect of the nanoscopic architecture on the flow properties of diluted solutions.
The flow properties of dilute solutions of linear, star, hyperbranched and dendrimeric polymers have been the subject of numerous studies. However, no systematic analysis has been carried out for the case of single-chain nanoparticles (SCNPs) of different nature, which are unimolecular soft nano-objects consisting of individual polymer chains collapsed to a certain degree by means of intramolec...
متن کاملStructural properties of hyperbranched polymers in the melt under shear via nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulation.
Hyperbranched polymer melts have been simulated using a coarse-grained model and nonequilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) techniques. In order to determine the shear-induced changes in the structural properties of hyperbranched polymers, various parameters were calculated at different strain rates. The radii of gyration which characterize the size of the polymer were evaluated. The tensor of gy...

This work reports the design and synthesis of amino acid-based hyperbranched polymers via the combination of self-condensing vinyl polymerization (SCVP) and reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization from tert-butyl carbamate (Boc)-L-valine acryloyloxyethyl ester (Boc-Val-HEA) and S-(4-vinyl)benzyl S’-butyltrithiocarbonate (VBBT) with variable degrees of branching (D...
متن کاملPhase Diagrams for Systems Containing Hyperbranched Polymers
Hyperbranched polymers show an outstanding potential for applications ranging from chemistry over nanotechnology to pharmacy. In order to take advantage of this potential, the underlying phase behaviour must be known. From the thermodynamic point of view, the modelling of these phase diagrams is quite challenging, because the thermodynamic properties depend on the architecture of the hyperbranc...
متن کاملRecent Progress on Hyperbranched Polymers Synthesized via Radical-Based Self-Condensing Vinyl Polymerization
This short review article summarizes recent reports on using controlled radical polymerization (CRP) of inimers (compounds containing initiating group and vinyl group in one molecule) or transmers (compounds containing chain transfer group and vinyl group in one molecule) for the synthesis of hyperbranched polymers. These inimers and transmers that carry numerous functional groups could be homo...
